What fun we had at Fakenham Junior School spending the day with pancakes, pancakes and more pancakes. The Year 5’s adorned their aprons and headscarves, then armed themselves with frying pans, for their pancake races, to recognise the Christian traditions of Shrove Tuesday.
The course included beady-eyed teacher judging, to ensure ready-steady-go speed and fair flipping. In addition to this, some classes worked with a Year 4 parent volunteer, Mrs Howlett, to mix up batter and cook their very own pancakes. Other classes, wolfed down pancakes freshly griddled in the Forest schools area, with a range of sugary toppings to choose from – YUM!
“I have had pancakes for breakfast, pancake races, pancakes freshly cooked on the fire – and guess what I am having for dinner tonight….. PANCAKES!” quoted a jam-faced Year 5 pupil.
